The Elton Johns Aids Foundation has received £725,000 in an anonymous bid for a McLaren 5705 Spider.
For the first time, the car manufacturer donated the bespoke Spider to the foundation during the Argento Ball – which was held in Sir Elton’s own home in Berkshire – where it was auctioned off for the life-changing amount.
Every bit of the money – which was auctioned by an anonymous bidder – will be given to the foundation, whose goal is to create an Aids-free future for everyone.
Over the last 25 years, the Elton John Aids Foundation has reached millions of people in 26 different countries with their HIV information and it has prevented almost a million babies being born with the infection.
The foundation also helped to leverage nearly £300 million in additional funding from governments and funding partners.
