The White House opens its ever first gender neutral bathroom
By Josh Haggis
The White House has announced the opening of its first gender neutral bathroom.
The restroom, which is available for use by any employee regardless of gender or sexuality, is located in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building where a number of high-profile meetings are regularly held.
“The White House allows staff and guests to use restrooms consistent with their gender identity, which is in keeping with the Administration’s existing legal guidance on this issue and consistent with what is required by the Executive Order that took effect today for federal contractors,” spokesman Jeff Tiller told CNN.
“In addition, an all-gender restroom is also available in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which provides guests and staff an additional option.”
The landmark move follows Obama’s widely praised order, which came into effect on Wednesday, that made it illegal for companies contracting from within the federal government to discriminate based on an employee’s sexuality or gender.
