Theresa May appoints anti-LGBT MP to cabinet
By Josh Lee
Dr Liam Fox has been chosen to head up a new department for international trade by Prime Minister Theresa May. The former Defence Secretary has not voted in favour of LGBT equality once as an MP. Fox voted against equal marriage, describing the proposals as “absurd” and saying in a letter on his website that it “smacks of a form of social engineering of which Conservatives should be instinctively wary”. He was absent for votes on civil partnerships, gender recognition, equal age of consent, the abolition of Section 28 and the Equality Act abolition of Section 28. He also voted against equal adoption rights. In 2011, Fox was forced to stand down as Defence Secretary over allegations regarding close friend Adam Werritty, when it emerged that Mr Werritty had accompanied the politician on 18 official overseas trips, according to the BBC.
