Tim Farron says sorry for malicious tweet about ‘gay cure’
By Micah Sulit
New Lib Dem leader Tim Farron has been trying to convince the LGBT community that he’s on our side and passionate about our issues, so it didn’t help that a tweet from his account compared gay people to fish and frogs.
The tweet was a response to the British Humanist Association sharing an article about the number of UK health workers who believe homosexuals can be ‘cured’. It said, “They can be, most sexual disorientation is caused by chemical leaching… check out the fish and frogs.”
The reply has been deleted and Farron apologised for it on Thursday, calling it “fake and malicious”.
I am investigating after a fake and malicious tweet appeared to be posted from my account this evening. I apologise for any offence caused.

According to writer John Sargeant, only three people have access to Farron’s Twitter account, including Farron and his spokesperson Paul Butters. Butters had been the one to delete the tweet.
