Trans guys make their voices heard
It’s safe to say 2015 has been the year in which trans went mainstream. Yet, the overwhelming focus is on trans women: From Laverne Cox and Rebecca Root, to Caitlyn Jenner and her instantly-iconic reveal on the cover of Vanity Fair. In the newest issue of Attitude Magazine, we present the other side of the trans experience with a look at four everyday trans guys.
We speak to Kieran Maloney, a 25-year-old New Zealander who says finding relationships is the ‘scariest and hardest part’ about being trans. There’s Jake Graf, a London filmmaker committed to exploring trans issues through his work. Then there’s Ben Melzer, 28, a German guy who speaks frankly about his yearning to have his breasts removed – top surgery is ‘the most important one for any trans guy,’ he says. Finally we chat to Nic Brennan, a 34-year-old London firefighter who talks openly about his journey from feeling suicidal and trapped in the wrong body to a fulfilling life as a transgender man.
