Two men who used Grindr to rob and blackmail men in Ghana have been arrested.
According to Citi News, Philip Larbi and Sam Akai used the hook-up app to invite men to have sex but when the men turned up, the two suspects held them at knifepoint and demanded they hand over their money and other valuables.
According to police, the two men also took naked photos and videos of their victims before threatening to expose them on social media if they didn’t give them money.
David Agyemang Agyem, the divisional police commander in Kasoa, warned other users of the dangers using the app in a country where homosexuality is still illegal.
He said: “Those who visit the Grindr website which is an LGBT+ site must be careful and must watch out for criminals since they are looking for people to devour.”
