Two men taken to hospital after homophobic attack in Whitby on New Year’s Eve
The two men sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries

Two men were taken to hospital after being attacked in a homophobic fuelled assault in Whitby.
On New Year’s Eve, two groups of men where in JK bar in the North Yorkshire seaside town when an altercation happened which spilled out onto the streets, the Scarborough News reported.
Police are now appealing for witnesses and have reported the incident as a homophobic hate crime after two men were hospitalised with serious but not life-threatening injuries including lacerations and head injuries.
Both men have now returned home and a third man was also hurt in the altercation but only sustained minor injuries.
Detective Sergeant Andy Hall, of Scarborough Serious Crime Team, said: “This was a serious incident that left two men in hospital.
“We’ve launched an extensive investigation to establish what happened and we’d like to hear from people who saw or heard anything that could help our enquiries.
“Maybe you were in the bar at the time and overheard a conversation between the two groups, or maybe you were driving on a nearby street and have dashcam footage of the altercation.”
A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on bail.
