The Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta has died at the age of 45.

The 45-year-old American screenwriter – who is behind the hit ABC show starring America Ferrara and Vanessa Williams – was reportedly found dead in a Miami motel home.

Horta’s agent confirmed the news but did not add any more information, Variety reported.

Silvio was openly gay and came out to his friends and family in his teens.

Following news of his tragic death, many flocked to social media to pay tribute to him.

Ferrara posted an image of herself with Silvio on Instagram with the caption: “I’m stunned and heartbroken to hear the devastating news of Ugly Betty creator, Silvio Horta’s death.

“His talent and creativity brought me and so many others such joy & light.

“I’m thinking of his family and loved ones who must be in so much pain right now- and of the whole Ugly Betty family who feel this loss so deeply.”

Williams also paid tribute to him and wrote: “Still in shock after hearing the tragic news of our #uglybetty creator #silviohorta 💔

Dustin Lance Black also posted on Twitter following the news of Silvio’s death and said: “Waking up in the UK to the heartbreaking news that my wonderful, sparkling, talented old pal of nearly 20 years is gone.

“You never failed to put a sh*t eating grin on my face, Silvio Horta. Rest in joy and peace. You were one of a kind. 💔”
