US gym cancels membership of customer who complained about transgender woman

A gym in America cancelled a customer’s membership after she repeatedly complained about a transgender woman using the women’s changing rooms.
Planet Fitness revoked Yvette Cormier of Midland County’s membership after she raised the issue with staff and fellow customers.
MLive reports that she explained: “I was stunned and shocked. He looked like a man. … He did not look like a woman. It freaked me out because, why is a man in here?”
When she initially complained to an employee on February 28, Cormier was told that the unidentified individual identified as a woman and was allowed to use the facilities, which include private changing stalls.
However, she brought her complaint to the gym’s head office, who further explained the company’s “no judgement zone” policy. Despite this, she is said to have further complained to fellow members, leading to the gym’s decision to cancel her membership.
Planet Fitness PR director McCall Gosselin said in a statement:
“Planet Fitness is committed to creating a non-intimidating, welcoming environment for our members. Our gender identity non-discrimination policy states that members and guests may use all gym facilities based on their sincere self-reported gender identity.
“The manner in which this member expressed her concerns about the policy exhibited behavior that management at the Midland club deemed inappropriate and disruptive to other members, which is a violation of the membership agreement and as a result her membership was cancelled.”
