Viewers puzzled as Sky News censors the word ‘gay’
By Will Stroude
Sky News seemingly censored the word ‘gay’ from appearing onscreen during its newspaper review show yesterday (May 31).
During the show, a tweet was displayed about Benjy the ‘gay’ bull, who was saved from slaughter by Simpsons co-creator Sam Simon after showing sexual interest in bulls, but has now reportedly been experimenting with the cows at his new home in Norfolk.

While the original tweet included the word gay, when it was displayed on Sky News it had been censored to read ‘Benjy the *** bull is actually bisexual’, PinkNews reports.
It is unclear whether the word ‘gay’ was removed intentionally by Sky News or as an automatic response – though the word ‘bisexual’ was left uncensored.
Benjy currently resides at Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Frettenham, Norfolk, after Simon – a life-long vegan who passed away in March following a battle with cancer – saved him from County Mayo, Ireland, where he was being fattened for slaughter after refusing to mate with cows.
Hillside’s founder Wendy Valentine told the BBC: “Judging by what he was trying to do the other day with one of the cows… he isn’t gay.”
Ms Valentine added: “Benjy came to us because somebody thought he was gay.”
“We don’t know whether or not he is but the fact that someone thought he was has certainly saved his life and stopped him being sent to the slaughterhouse.”
