UK retailer Robert Dyas has released a bizarre marketing video, which promotes both gay and straight employees and customers.

Published yesterday to the hardware store’s Facebook page, the promotional video has left us at Attitude HQ wondering if it’s a gag video, if something went amiss in the last marketing meeting, or if it’s a very sincere yet perhaps slightly misguided gesture to all customers across the rainbow spectrum.

Under an instrumental musical track of We Wish You a Merry Christmas, the video opens with Marcus, who explains he works at Robert Dyas and is gay.

“I like going out with my friends and playing volleyball. I also like showing our gay and straight customers our funky range of Christmas gifts.”

Marcus later returns in front of a Christmas tree, decorated in the store’s window. “It’s perfect for a gay person, or a straight person,” he explains.

Concluding the clip is a final shot of all the talent together, declaring that Robert Dyas is a place where “gays and straights can buy drills and much, much more”.

Across social media and the store’s Youtube channel, commentators have been left scratching their heads.

“Do you have any electric screwdrivers suitable for pansexual people?” writes Andy.

“I think this goes to show how irrelevant stereotypes are for people of different sexual orientations! Very surreal ad,” said Kate.

“I do not understand the reason or logic behind this! I’m straight and it doesn’t bother me what sexual preference people have,” adds Hannah.
