Watch | Colton Haynes speaks out about the modelling wage gap

By Troy Nankervis

After viewing the following video featuring Teen Wolf star man Colton Haynes, we love the 27-year-old a little bit more for his use of comedy to raise awareness around the rather important issue of wage inequality.

Uploaded to Funny or Die, Haynes references statistics published by Fortune back in July last year, which found male supermodels were out-earned by females by millions of dollars.

“I’ve been modelling my entire life, I thought these cheekbones were going to take me all the way,” jokes Colton.

“But in July, Fortune magazine published an article that said the highest paid female model earns 95% more than the highest paid male model.

“Men earning less than women but doing the same work, what? How long has this been going on? Do other male models know about this?”

At this point in the video, model and actress Cody Horn joins Haynes to explain despite these numbers, the norm is that “all across the country and all across many, many industries, women get paid 78 cents to every dollar a man earns”.

Calling the modelling industry an “exception” to the rule, at the end of the clip, Haynes calls for gender pay gap to be closed so women and men are paid equally across the board.
