Watch | Donald Trump threatens to overturn equal marriage ruling if elected President
US Presidential candidate Donald Trump says he would “strongly consider” reversing the landmark US Supreme Court decision to legalise gay marriage last year, if he were to make it into the White House this November.
Speaking to Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, the 69 year-old mogul said he wished that marriage equality had instead been legalised “by the state”.
“I don’t like the way they ruled. I disagree with the Supreme Court from the standpoint they should have given the state — it should be a states’ rights issue,” he said.
“This is a very surprising ruling. And I — I can see changes coming down the line, frankly. But I would have much preferred that they ruled at a state level and allowed the states to make those rulings themselves.
“If I’m elected I would be very strong in putting certain judges on the bench that maybe could change things, but they have a long way to go.”
At this point in the interview, Wallace clarified, asking Trump if he were to become President, if he meant he “might try to appoint justices to overrule the decision on same-sex marriage?”
“I would strongly consider that, yes,” replied Trump.
Throughout his campaign so far, the billionaire has claimed Mexican immigrants are rapists, Muslims should be banned from entering the United States. and he had been repeatedly derogatory towards women, including his ongoing outbursts towards Rosie O’Donnell which have labelled her as ‘fat’ and ‘ugly’.
Last week, news of a Donald Trump inspired erotica novella written by comedian and writer Elijah Daniel went viral across social media.
