A video of the moving moment a 14-year-old trans girl discovers she is able to begin hormone therapy has gone viral.

The footage of Erica Maison surprising her daughter Corey with her first dose of oestrogen has racked up over a million views in just three days, and it’s easy to see why.

“She squeezed me, and I stopped the camera so I could hug her back. Neither of us let go for what seemed like an eternity,” Erica told Buzzfeed.

“We were both crying and shaking. She literally took my breath away, as she has never given me a hug like that before. I have never felt so much love from her than that moment. It was a mixture of pure joy, and relief from us both.”

Erica explained that Corey had been feminine from a very young age, before coming out as transgender at the age of 11.

“She loved to dress in high heels and dresses. In public she wore boy clothes — I just assumed she might be gay,” she said.

After being pulled out of public school, where she was viciously bullied for presenting as female, Corey was given a puberty-supressing hormone implant, and has since been on a two-and-a-half-year wait to being hormone treatment.

“We have been waiting months for the readiness letter to be finalised and sent to Chicago, so had no idea on a timeline of when it would actually happen”, Erica explained.
