Watch: Trans student’s classmates run Westboro Baptist Church out of town
By Will Stroude
Remember Landon Patterson, the trans high school student from Missouri who made headlines around the world last month after her classmates proudly voted her their homecoming queen just months after she came out to them? Well, the story continues…
Sadly, after hearing about Landon’s story, notorious anti-gay Christian cult the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) decided to picket Oak Park High School in protest at Landon’s victory – but the students once again demonstrated their courage by staging their own counter-protest and eventually driving the homophobic loons out of town.

Hundreds of students, churchgoers and townspeople turned out to protect their queen by drowning out the picket, which was quickly called off in the face of such large opposition. A video of the incident shows the crowd cheering as the WBC is driven out of town, to cries of “long live the queen”.
Speaking after her heartwarming victory last month, Patterson said: “I’ve dreamed about it since my freshman year, but I never knew it was possible for me.
“Just knowing that I did this, and that I just broke some barriers, I can’t even put it into words what I’m feeling right now. I’m just excited and hope this is going to help others out there.”
