Thankfully in 2015, publicly bashing gay men for their behaviour is not longer publically acceptable – but we can still be our own worst enemy when it comes to judging one another.

New York-based psychotherapist Matthew J Dempsey has filmed a revealing new video examining gay men’s relationship with sex and intimacy, arguing that when it comes to everything from PrEP to hook-up apps, we all need to take a look at how we’re shaped by what society has traditionally deemed ‘acceptable’.

“I’m here to tell you that sex is a great thing. It’s natural. It’s awesome!… Of course we need to be a bit mindful about the intention behind sex that we’re having. If we’re using it as a way of detaching from other meaningful or more authentic experiences in life then we might want to reconsider that.

“Otherwise, as long as we’re being safe…then go out there and experiment and have fun.”

He adds: “Judging someone else doesn’t define who they are. It defines who you are.”
