Westboro Baptist Church accidentally protest against Ivory Coast
By Will Stroude
As the civilised world celebrated the news that Ireland had passed marriage equality in Friday’s referendum (May 21), one group who, somewhat predictably, weren’t so happy were American hate group-cum-cult, the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC).
Taking to the streets and Twitter to protest the decision and denounce the entire population of the Emerald Isle to hell, the group sadly failed to notice that instead of the Irish flag, they were depicting that of the Ivory Coast…

Not content on just hatin’ on gays and the coastal West African Nation, the unaffiliated Baptist church – notorious for picketing the funerals of American soldiers and ‘fag-enablers’ – also turned their wrath on Catholics:

After some of Twitter’s more kindly users pointed out that the flag the WBC were using was in fact that of Ivory Coast, the group tried to cover-up the rather embarrassing faux-pas by claiming they were holding the flag upside down on purpose, because of that, erm, age-old adage that an upside down flag symbolises a country in distress:

Just in the nick of time however, the Kansas City-based group realised that God DOES actually hate the Ivory Coast too, where homosexuality has always been legal. But, you know, maybe God missed it at first because the Ivory Coast really just doesn’t get as much publicity as it should.

Us? We’re just thrilled the WBC are finally getting on board with the emoji craze.
