Where are the top LGBT honeymoon destinations?

ABTA has revealed its top ten LGBT honeymoon destinations to coincide with the legalisation of same-sex marriage in the UK.

The travel association popular gay destinations such as San Francisco and Sitges, as well as less obvious choices like Tel Aviv in Israel and South Africa’s Cape Town.

Brighton is regarded as the number one UK honeymoon destination for LGBT newlyweds.

Meanwhile, Mexico’s Puerto Vallarta, Greek Islands Mykonos and Lesbos, Miami and the Florida Keys, Phuket and Sydney are also included.

ABTA has also given a special mention to increasingly popular destinations like Montpellier in France and Florianopolis in Brazil.

Newlyweds Peter McGraith and David Cabrezza – who were among the first to marry in the UK over the weekend – have spoken about their plans for a belated honeymoon.

Peter said: “David and I will be taking some time to relax in London after our wedding and may look to plan a belated honeymoon abroad.

“In many destinations, being on holiday or being on honeymoon as a gay couple will be trouble free. But, there are certain places and certain situations that LGBT couples and newlyweds should be aware of when they are travelling, from the point of view of safety as well to ensure that they enjoy the best possible experience.

“The destinations highlighted by ABTA are good choices for LGBT newlyweds and holidaymakers. We would urge all couples to do their research and where possible to consider using hotels that advertise to LGBT people and that have clear policies of supporting LGBT staff.”
