The Trump administration revealed over the weekend that they are looking to legally abolish transgender people on a federal level by redefining gender as a “biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth”.
According to a memo acquired by the New York Times, Trump’s Department of Health and Human Service has proposed to define gender under Title IX, the federal civil rights law that bans discrimination on the basis of gender in educational institutions.
The proposed definition would define sex as either male or female, unchangeable and determined by the genitals that a person is born with and any dispute about someone’s sex would have to be clarified with genetic testing.
But now Cher – who has consistently and rightly criticised Trump on social media for his views – has taken to Twitter to slam the President’s anti-LGBT move.
She wrote: “Fk These Ppl.Will MY SON Be Sent To INTERNMENT CAMP 2 Live with LATINO Children,& Be Kept In Cages in Places where (American flag emoji) Cant See Them.THIS IS ‘HIS CODE’ 4,..MAKE THEM DISAPPEAR #MBS (sic)”

Following her tweet, her son Chaz – who is transgender – also tweeted: “I can’t begin to express the rage I feel toward an administration that is trying to redefine me out of existence.
“Just another gift for his small minded base, terrified of the diversity that has always made America exceptional! #Vote”

Other LGBT celebrities and allies including Laverne Cox and Bette Midler also took to social media to express anger at the President’s new anti-LGBT move.
