Attitude Pride Award winner: Male rape campaigner Duncan Craig

CEO of Survivors Manchester, Duncan Craig cast aside years of work in the arts to bring attention to the very real issue of male sexual abuse and rape. He now devotes his life to supporting survivors and urging others to speak up about the abuse they have suffered. We’re honoured to present Duncan with an inaugural Attitude Pride Award at tonight’s ceremony, in association with Delta Air Lines. Watch him share his inspiring story in his own words:

Through his work with the charity, Duncan lobbies the Ministry of Justice, advises chiefs of police, attends Home Office initiatives, sits on committees and advises the media, all the while taking private sessions with many of the 600 male sexual abuse survivors who’ve come to the charity looking for help. He also recently served as chief advisor for John Paul McQueen’s male rape storyline on Hollyoaks.

Duncan explains that the charity has battled an undercurrent of homphobia to stay alive gather support. “Because you’re talking about men and sex and men, that must be gay, all those complications, which are completely untrue. Because people kept saying no it just started a fight inside me and I’ve been fighting ever since,” he says.
