Attitude Pride Award winner: Schools campaigner Christian Webb

By Will Stroude

He’s the Welsh university student who’s dedicating his time to tackling prejudice in the classroom, and we’re proud to honour Christian Webb with one of our inaugural Attitude Pride Awards at tonight’s ceremony, in association with Delta Air Lines. Watch Christian tell his story in his own words below:

He might have just wrapped his second year studying history at Cardiff University, but Christian is never far from the classroom. For the young campaigner, ensuring that school isn’t the hellish experience for young LGBT people that it often can be is his driving force. “We may have acquired legislative equality and have lots of laws protecting us, but these are more or less redundant unless we change the hearts and minds of people,” he says.

As well as devoting his free time to four different charities, the 20 year-old recently returned to his own sixth form college to speak to students and staff about homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in the classroom, as well as setting up the school’s first ever ‘Equality Panel’ to provide diversity workshops. He explains: “If I see injustices or people being treated differently, I ask why and what I can do to help it.”
