Attitude Style Guide: How to Dress for Pride

By Nick Byam

With summer here, it’s time to renew your gay pride garments and make sure you’re looking fun and fresh for all those street parties and Gaga tribute performances. Pride in London is just around the corner and there’s not much time left, but the Attitude fashion team are here to guide you through a couple of staple looks. Pride is all about celebrating and having fun, so your number one priority is making sure your outfit is bursting with quirk and colour!

Look 1:

This is no time for your skinny jeans make an unwelcome outing: Rain or shine, Pride is the perfect time to show off those arms and knees. Match a statement vest with a pair of off-the-knee printed shorts or vice-versa, and make sure you’ve got a bright pair of trainers to match. A retro accessory or two completes the look, bringing it all together without losing the laidback vibe.

Look 2:

The key to a classic Pride outfit is to keep it simple. You want the offhand, casual look of someone who’s just rolled out of bed and thrown something together (even though we both know that’s not true). A pair of fitted denim shorts are always a dependable piece, and if getting the guns out aren’t your thing, make sure your t-shirt is peppy and fun. Twin it with some beachy wristbands – they’ll draw the eye and make your arms look bigger. And of course it’s a universal fact that everyone looks great in a good pair of shades.

Accessories:

Whatever the outfit’s shape, don’t hold back on the colour: Pride is one the only times you’re going to get away with rainbow anything, so make the most of it with a pair of statement socks and sunglasses – you might be in the city centre but you want to dress for Gran Canaria (within reason). Ditch the satchel and finish the look with a quirky printed rucksack – well, how else are you going to sneak your own booze in?
