Tesco stores to fly rainbow flag and support LGBT Switchboard ahead of Pride in London

By Attitude Magazine

On Saturday 18th June and Sunday 19th June, 500 Tesco stores will proudly display rainbow bunting, balloons and even arrange the fruit and vegetables to reflect the Pride colours.

Covent Garden Metro and Regent Street Metro will welcome The London Gay Men’s Chorus to perform, and a pop-up bar will serve rainbow inspired cocktails and mocktails.

Customers will be invited to show their support by taking part in an in-store charity raffle, sample rainbow-coloured cupcakes and in 12 select stores, purchase exclusive Pride t-shirts with proceeds going towards the LGBT Switchboard charity.

Nuala O’ Sullivan, Co-chair at Switchboard LGBT+, said: “After the terrible events in Orlando, Pride is an opportunity for the LGBT+ community to show its strength, spirit and determination. Switchboard is there to support our callers with calm words when they need them most, and we are thankful to Attitude Magazine and Tesco for giving us the opportunity to fundraise in their stores during the run-up to Pride in London.”

For over 40 years LGBT Switchboard has run a helpline supporting millions across the UK.

John Dickinson, Head of Out at Tesco’s Network says: “We are incredibly proud to be an official sponsor of London Pride. LGBT Switchboard has provided much support and care for many people over the years. Our fundraising demonstrates appreciation for the work they do, and our commitment to supporting the LGBT+ community.”

Out at Tesco is the largest LGBT network in Europe with over 1,500 members from within the business. It aims to attract, support and develop the LGBT community within the work place, so that our colleagues feel confident to be themselves at work.

12 key stores will mark the parade route by turning the famous chevrons under the Tesco store sign to Pride colours.

A 40ft Tesco delivery truck decked out with disco lights, a dance floor, DJ and bubble machines will travel the parade route with Tesco colleagues handing out branded sweets, water bottles, bubbles and Pride flags.
