American Apparel mocks Trump with ‘Make America Gay Again’ Pride collection

By Samuel McManus

American Apparel is releasing a new clothing range that celebrates the month of gay pride and mocks Donald Trump in equal measure.

The line of clothes feature bright colours and slogans that poke fun at Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ campaign, with many of the items emblazoned with ‘Make America Gay Again’.

The clothes are being described as “a collection of styles that stand for acceptance – no matter who you are, where you’re from or who you love.”

30% of the proceeds of the garments, which are priced between $24 and $30 (£16.48 – £20.60), will be donated to the Human Rights Campaign, who collaborated with American Apparel in creating the clothes.

The money raised will be used to fund the Human Rights Campaign’s ongoing work to establish an amendment to the Civil Rights Act, which would ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in the USA.

Olivia Alair Dalton, President of Marketing at American Apparel, said: “Today, LGBTQ people remain at risk of being fired, evicted or denied services in a majority of states simply because of who they are. That’s why we are fighting to pass the Equality Act.”

Personal video stories which aim to educate and speed acceptance and understand of the LGBT community will also be released alongside the line.
