The BBC have announced details of special programmes featuring George Michael.

The singer will feature in a two-part BBC Radio 2 documentary, titled Up Close with George Michael, which will air later this month.

The first part of the documentary will air tomorrow night (March 18) at 10pm, with the concluding part airing a week later on March 25.

Meanwhile, BBC One will air highlights from Michael’s Symphonica show at the Opera Garnier in Paris next month.

He performed at the iconic venue in September shortly before contracting pneumonia and was forced to delay subsequent tour dates.

Michael said: “I’m delighted the BBC is broadcasting the Symphonica concert, which was recorded at the Opera Garnier in Paris, a stunning setting in which to perform a gig dedicated to a charity that’s so close to my heart.

“It was a magical night, so I’m thrilled that fans will get the chance to experience it, as well as hearing the behind-the-scenes story on Radio 2.”

In the documentary, Michael will discuss the making of his Symphonica album, as well as time in prison and rehabilitation from drug addiction.

Jan Younghusband, BBC Commissioning Editor of Music and Events TV, said that the specials are an “exciting opportunity” to learn more about “one of the UK”s most iconic figures in entertainment”.
