‘Breaking Bad’, ‘Sherlock’ lead 2014 Emmy winners

Breaking Bad

was the big winner at the 2014 Emmy Awards on Monday (August 25).

The AMC series picked up three major awards, including Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Bryan Cranston, who portrayed Walter White.

The show was named Outstanding Drama Series ahead of Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, Mad Men, House of Cards and True Detective.

Aaron Paul also fought off competition from the likes of Jim Carter (Downton Abbey) and Josh Charles (The Good Wife) to win the prize for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Anna Gunn – who will next appear in Gracepoint, the US version of Broadchurch – took home the prize for Supporting Actress for her performance as Walter White’s wife Skyler.

Sherlock also won two big prizes, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman named best lead and supporting actors for their roles on the BBC drama.

American Horror Story‘s Jessica Lange won Lead Actress in a TV Miniseries or Movie, while Kathy Bates won for her supporting role.

Elsewhere, Ty Burrell won Supporting Actor for his role in Modern Family, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus also won for HBO’s Veep.

Julianna Margulies won for her lead role in The Good Wife, scoring her third Emmy win, following previous awards for ER in 1995 and The Good Wife in 2011.
