By popular demand, more of our Dad Bods

By Attitude Magazine

As Attitude magazine presents its annual reader’s Hot 100, we take a look at the Dad Bod craze that swept the internet this summer. In the year that women rallied against the ‘Beach Body Ready’ ad campaigns, under the tag ‘Dad Bods’, regular guys found comfort in the knowledge that you don’t need to be ball and chained to a workout routine to be considered sexy.

Last week, we brought you a look at a couple of the guys from our Dad Bods print feature – and you responded with such enthusiasm that we thought we’d bring you a couple more…

Sean, 40 & John, 34

Sean: The first time I heard about Dad Bod, someone put a post online about Leonardo DiCaprio and I thought ‘Corrr, he’s gone downhill.’ It’s something different, isn’t it? It’s all usually about going to the gym, beach bod for the summer and all that… I stopped going to the gym because I thought ‘Oh well, what’s the point?’ If this is gonna be the craze then I’ll be the first person to do it.

John: Celebrities always used to be people with amazing bodies, and now they are every walk of life and that makes people feel more comfortable in themselves.

Sean: Looks-wise, I don’t really care what people think at the end of the day.

John: I have issues to do with previous partnerships, things that were said… That’s one of the reasons I quite liked the idea of coming here and doing this, I was like ‘You know what, that might get me over some issues’.

John: The gym for me is not necessarily about attaining a perfect body, it’s also just about general health and fitness, and even sometimes relaxing. It’s nice to do a short workout and then a steam or the pool.

There’s so much advertising for getting a great summer body, but there’s also quite a lot of backlash to that as well. I think it’s reversing the other way. Like any fashion, it kind of goes backwards.

I was going to places like XXL, hanging out with more bear type guys, when I noticed what my own body type was like. The rise of the dadbod has helped my confidence a bit because there’s no need to look like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle with a ripped six-pack and big biceps.

I would say I’m fairly body confident. Sometimes, I’m OK, other times, I feel I might need to cut back on certain foods, or maybe go for a run. I have my ups and downs, but I feel confident, overall.

My Instagram is full of topless pictures, whenever I’m feeling good or having a good day!

I go to the gym to keep healthy, but I suppose with the gym comes rules of ‘Oh, now I need this, now I need that’. I try not to fixate on trying to become something that I don’t need to be.
