Cut to the feeling! Carly Rae Jepsen has been announced as the headline act for Bristol Pride 2022.
Bristol Pride made the announcement on Thursday (28 April) on the gay radio station, Gaydio.
The Canadian singer-songwriter and Grammy Award nominee will perform a collection of hits during her set on 9 July.
“We are so excited”
Daryn Carter, Bristol Pride’s Director of Programming says: “We are so excited to welcome global superstar Carly Rae Jepsen to headline this year’s Bristol Pride Festival. With number 1s in over 47 countries, 2 Grammy nominations, and AMA’s Best New Artist Award winner, she’s a worldwide icon and outspoken supporter of the LGBT+ community.”
Carter adds: “Bristol Pride is one of the largest Pride events in the UK and this year we have our biggest ever lineup as we come back together after 2 years apart. The headline set from Carly Rae Jepsen is going to be a truly special performance that marks the close of 2 weeks of events celebrating Pride, and showcasing our community across the city.”
Speaking to the Table Manners podcast in 2019 Carly Rae Jepsen said of being a gay icon: “Honestly, that’s kinda been the gift of my career. I did not expect to have that come into my life.
“We’d been playing a few Pride shows and things, and I’m definitely passionate about any support I can give towards fighting the good fight, and love is love, and I’ve had friends since childhood who’ve gone through some pretty severe experiences that have enriched me enough to make it a calling of mine.”
Other acts already confirmed to be performing at Bristol Pride include; Alexandra Burke, RuPaul’s Drag Race Canada winner Priyanka, Bright Light Bright Light, and Scissor Sister’s Ana Matronic who will headline the Official After Party.
Bristol Pride is set to take place on Saturday 9 July at The Downs after a two-year absence.
