Cher Lloyd teams up with Gossip’s Beth Ditto on new album
Cher Lloyd’s new album features a song that the Swagger Jagger singer co-wrote with Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto.
Lloyd’s second album Sorry I’m Late is due for release in the US on May 27, and will come out in the UK a couple of months later on July 28. Its seventh track, Sweet Despair, is credited to Lloyd, producer Jason Evigan – who has previously worked with Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato – and someone called “Beth Patterson”.
Beth Patterson is actually Standing In the Way of Control star Beth Ditto, who was born Mary Beth Patterson.
“We had a really unorthodox [recording] session where it was me, a producer called Jason Evigan and Beth Ditto. It’s like when would you ever put Beth Ditto and Cher Lloyd in the same room?” Lloyd told Attitude recently.
“It worked, and that’s why Sweet Despair is on the album now. You don’t necessarily think that anything’s going to work until you try it,” Lloyd added.
Sorry I’m Late will also feature songs co-written with up-and-coming Swedish singer Tove Lo and Mike Posner, with whom Lloyd worked on her debut album.
Sirens, the album’s current single, has a dark video which portrays drug abuse – and Lloyd’s namesake, the Grande Dame of gay icons Cher, recently praised it on Twitter.
