Cher on Putin: ‘He’s always shirtless – very Village People’
By Nick Levine
Cher has shared her thoughts on Vladimir Putin, branding the Russian President an “egomaniacal bully”.
Taking to Twitter last night (March 8), she wrote in her own inimitable style: “BRAVE UKRAINIAN MARINES…There R 3 Things U Cant Hide 4EVER. The SUN,The MOON & THE TRUTH ! putin’s an EGOMANIACAL BULLY. DICTATORS ALWAYS R.”
Replying to a tweet from one of her two million followers, she then drew attention to Putin’s fondness for whipping off his top and baring his manly chest.
In a follow-up tweet, Cher added: “Seriously,PUTIN IS ALREADY POWERFUL & FEARED..,BUT HE COULD ALSO B LOVED.THE LIVES OF MILLIONS R IN HIS (hands emoji) WHY COULDNT HE CARRY THEM IN HIS (hearts emoji) 2.”
Last year Cher revealed she turned down the chance to perform at the recent Winter Olympics in the Russian city of Sochi.
“I can’t name names, but my friend called who is a big oligarch over there, and asked me if I’d like to be an ambassador for the Olympics and open the show,” she recalled in an interview with Canadian magazine Macleans.
“I immediately said no. I want to know why all of this gay hate just exploded over there. He said the Russian people don’t feel the way the government does.”
Yesterday (March 8) it was revealed that Cher’s 1998 comeback hit Believe is the UK’s biggest-selling single ever by a female artist – click here for the all-time female artist top ten.
