HOW TO: Dress for Wimbledon in association with StylePilot
By Will Stroude
Steeped in history and tradition, Wimbledon is a British institution: We’re into the business end of the tournament this week, with fan favourites Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer and defending champion Andy Murray still in the running. With the help of StylePilot, we’re laying the ground rules for watching the guys battle it out on the hollowed courts of SW19…
There is no strict dress code for watching the tennis, but a bridge between smart and casual is your best bet – you never know if you’re going to end up on the TV or bumping into the icon that is Sue Barker on the grounds, so you need to look your best. A polo shirt gives you a collar, and a simple blazer keeps you looking smart but not over-dressed.

You could be in for a long day atop Henman Hill, Murray Mound or whatever you’ve named it, so a pair of shorts is a good way to go for comfort. You want to keep it classy though – this is The Championships after all – so a tailored pair is your best option.

Wimbledon tradition dictates that the players must be decked out in all-white outfits, and adhering to this can work even if you’re a spectator only. Whites, creams and neutrals are great for summer, and mixing it with stripes and heavy textures will help break it up and make it less monochrome.

You can get immersed walking around the grounds, so it’s important to keep a watch on you to check the time – you don’t want to miss court time with your favourite raquet-thrasher. Brimmed hats are always in vogue at tennis matches and sunglasses are a must in case the sun comes out.
