Louis Vuitton have a brand new pop-up at London Selfridges
By Will Stroude
Louis Vuitton has created a pop-up at Selfridges on London’s Oxford Street to exclusively preview its men’s pre-SS17 and main SS17 collections.
The iconic French brand has occupied a ground floor space of the London department store, housing not only the Louis Vuitton new collection but also designs exclusive to Selfridges.
For his second collection Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Style Director Kim Jones has taken inspiration from his early years growing up in Kenya and Botswana, and the pop-up’s decor is appropriately safari themed, with a giraffe hanging over the entrance to greet you as you walk in.
For a second time, Jones has collaborated with visual artists the Chapman Brothers, whose anarchic safari-inspired animal prints feature heavily throughout the collection, applied to ready-to-wear, accessories and leather goods.
Another key feature of the pop-up is the Denim Bar, offering styles in ‘regular’, ‘slim’ and ‘slim stretch’ fits with a variety of washes.
“There’s always something a little London hidden somewhere”, Kim says of the collection.
“This time it is the influence of punk – albeit via Africa, where Frank Marshall’s ‘Renegades’ portrait series of Botswana biker gangs in heavy leather depicts the fusion of two disparate aesthetics. Add a third, the French elegance of Louis Vuitton”.
The pop-up will be in store until January 15th and will present the pre-SS17 collection, after which the SS17 show will be previewed.
