Mariah Carey has announced the title and release date of her forthcoming album.

The singer has titled the new record Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse, after a portrait she drew of herself when she was three-and-a-half years old.

The album – which features previous singles #Beautiful, The Art of Letting Go and You’re Mine (Eternal) – will be released on May 27.

Talking about her self-portrait (which can be seen in the video below), she said: “It was a creative visualisation of how I saw myself with a purity of a child’s heart before it was ever broken.

“I’ve kept this drawing private for so long, but because this album is a reflection of some of the peaks and valleys that have made me who I am today, I have decided to share it with those of you who actually care and who have been there for me through it all.”

According to Mariah, The Elusive Chanteuse refers to the many nicknames she has been given throughout her career.
