McQ Alexander McQueen unveil AW16 collection
By Nick Byam
Yesterday afternoon McQ Alexander McQueen revealed both their men’s and women’s Autumn/Winter ’16 collections with a series of films and images on their digital flagship McQ.com
The menswear collection takes inspiration from the book MASKE by photographer Phyllis Galembo, where images of African carnival performers portraying characters drawn from local traditions and spiritual rituals uncovered innovative use of synthetic materials in each costume – resulting in vivid, robust colours and patterns.
Honouring this fusion of old and new worlds, McQ looks to its’ Scottish ancestral history of Fairisle knits, traditional tartans and kilts and marries it with the unexpected technicolour images of African masks and textiles to create an unconventional colour palette and silhouette.
