Model Freddie Abrahams: ‘A lot of my Instagram followers seem to be guys…’
In the Active section of our current Hot 100, we catch up with model Freddie Abrahams to find out about the exercise routine that keeps him looking so good.
Our accompanying shoot with the dark n’ brooding 30-year-old is something to behold, so we thought we’d share a couple of highlights with you…
How do you keep fit?
Over the last few years I do climbing and boring gym work really. My actual background is football, rugby and cricket, which I did at school and university, but once you get into the real world, it is much harder to do these things. Then I got into modelling, so I go to the gym and do some running, just to keep the look ticking over. I do cross fit as well. I would love to say I go canoeing or kayaking, but I don’t!
What do you define as ‘boring’ gym work?
Well I find the act of going to the gym boring in itself, because it is such a stale environment, you know? I’m lucky that in my job I can go at less busy times when it isn’t as mobbed, but I just find the whole environment depressing, especially when you see everybody in there after their working day just sweating it out for an hour. I find it all very boring and stuffy. I’d rather be out in the fresh air and doing bars, than stuck inside doing weights.
Are you on Instagram?
Yeah, but it is more of a work thing. It is hard to get the balance, because it steers you away from who you actually are. I try not to post too many topless photos just to get followers – I try to post things my friends would be cool with.
Do you find it a mood enhancer when people like what you post?
I’ve got a few friends who will admit that you can get a bit hooked and get a bit obsessed by how many followers they have. But I find it all a bit strange, because it’s all a bit fake. You go through periods of getting lots of followers and getting none. You just have to stay true to yourself.
How does your girlfriend find all of the attention you get?
She doesn’t mind at all. She understands that it’s all part of the job. plus, a lot of the followers I get are guys so it doesn’t bother her.
