New unseen Polaroids of a pre-fame Madonna to be released
By Will Stroude
Rare and unseen photographs of a pre-fame Madonna are set to be released in a new limited edition book from photographer Richard Corman.
The pictures of a carefree 24-year-old Madonna were taken on Friday, 17 June 1983 in her brother Christopher’s New York apartment – just six weeks before her life changed forever with the release of her self-titled debut album.
Capturing that raw energy that would go on to define her legendary career, Madonna 66 contains 66 ‘lost’ Polaroids from Richard Corman’s Madonna NYC 83 series, which were released to the public in 2013.
“For 35 years I thought they were lost,” Corman says. “Everything I do is labelled, I’m extremely organized, we archive anything – but this was just a little brown cardboard box. I opened it, and it took my breath away.”
Only 1500 copies of Madonna 66 are being released, so you’ll have to get in there fast to compete with die-hard Madge fans. The first 500 are being released with a print signed by Corman, and are selling for £100 per copy. The remaining 1,000 will cost £60 each.
