Rita Ora ties Geri Halliwell’s UK chart record
By Josh Haggis
Rita Ora has matched a chart record held by Spice Girls legend Geri Halliwell.
Ora’s latest single I Will Never Let You Down, written and produced by her boyfriend Calvin Harris, debuts at Number One on the UK’s Official Singles Chart today (May 18), becoming the singer’s fourth chart-topping single.
Ora, 23, previously reached the top spot with Hot Right Now, a collaboration with DJ Fresh, R.I.P. featuring Tinie Tempah and How We Do (Party), all of which made Number One in 2012.
The only other British female solo artist to have scored four Number Ones on the UK’s Official Singles Chart is Halliwell, who reached the top spot with 1999′s Mi Chico Latino and Lift Me Up, 2000′s Bag It Up and 2001′s It’s Raining Men.
Responding to the news, Ora told OfficialCharts.com: “I’ve just found out I’m Number One with I Will Never Let You Down and it’s amazing! It’s crazy that it’s the fourth one! I’m honoured. As you can see, I have no words! I can’t believe it… I’m just so happy that my fans are so supportive because this is a special, personal song for me.”
Several other British female solo artists are right behind Halliwell and now Ora with three Number Ones, including Leona Lewis, Pixie Lott and Alexandra Burke. Attitude’s Will Stroude has weighed up their chances of catching Halliwell – click here to read his predictions.
