Sir Ian McKellen to narrate new LGBT documentary ‘Hating Peter Tatchell’
By Will Stroude
From running in the infamously homophobic Bermodsey by-election in 1983, to outing gay bishops as part of Outrage! in the ’90s, to attempting not one but two citizens arrests of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, to call the life and career of veteran human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell colourful would be something of an understatement.
As the UK’s most prominent LGBT activist, Tatchell has long proved a divisive figure, but a new documentary backed by a Kickstarter campaign hopes to pay tribute to the man who’s dedicated his life to promoting equality – not just for the LGBT community, but for all.
Hating Peter Tatchell will tell the story of how one man defies critics to create change and bring human rights issues into the mainstream, and is set to be narrated by none other than Sir Ian McKellen.
The film’s Kickstarter has currently raised £7,080 of the £10,000 needed to make a reality, but with deadline looming, your support can help see it over the line.
Director Chrisopher Amos says: “Just like Peter, I’m also an Aussie, and I happen to be gay and live in London.
“Over the past decade, peter has gone from one of the most despised public figures to one of the most loved. However, there are still those who oppose him.
“Your support is going to help us source archive footage and also music for the film. I need your help to get this film made. In return, I’ll deliver an inspirational film about how one man can change the world to be a better place.”
You can add your support and help get this important new film off the ground at the documentary’s Kickstarter page – but hurry, there’s only four days to go.
