Why did you decide to go on a blind date?

Michael: I’ve tried different avenues before, so I thought it’s about time I tried something new.

Richard: I’ve always been up for trying new things and for generally putting myself in absurd and embarrassing situations, so a blind date sounded right up my street. I should probably say it sounded like a great way of meeting someone new, but let’s be honest I was mostly in it for the ‘LOLs’.

What were your first impressions?

M: I thought he had really nice eyes and a great smile to start with.

R: He seemed nervous, was friendly, very chatty, but definitely not my type.

How was the conversation and what did you talk about?

M: I had to start a lot of the conversations and the three top topics of the night were himself, the waiter and generic family questions.

R: Surprisingly we didn’t talk about thermonuclear fusion, Greek philosophy or the state of the economy. Conversation did flow easily all evening, but we didn’t delve much deeper than where we worked, what we did in our spare time and where we lived.

Any awkward moments?

M: Most of the evening, as he seemed to be overly interested in the waiter rather than getting to know me. The fact his face dropped as he walked over to the table made me feel very insecure as well.

R: Me accidentally mentioning past relationships is always awkward, but it was outshone by taking several selfies because he wasn’t happy with the first one (we were lit by a single candle, to be fair).

How was the food?

M: Amazing – really good. I especially liked our trio of steaks.

R: Meaty, and excellent. We ended up taking the waiters recommendation on everything, and you can’t go wrong with a steak selection. When we ordered squid I was a little worried it would be a raw, baby squid on a plate, but thankfully it was delicious and the service was impeccable.

Snog, marry, avoid?

M: Avoid; if he has no interest in me I wouldn’t want to do anything.

R: Avoid, I’m afraid.

Would your mum like him?

M: No as he was quite self-involved and my mum is the complete opposite of that.

R: My mum loves to chat so they’d get along well, but she’d probably realise fairly quickly she wouldn’t be buying a new hat any time soon.

Will you see each other again?

M: Probably not. He’s looking to go travelling so there’s no point.

R: I had a fun, ridiculous evening and he seemed like a genuinely nice guy, but we had absolutely nothing in common. I don’t think we’ll see each other again.

What score would you give the date out of 10?

M: 5/10

R: 6/10
