Tom Daley calls Phillip Schofield a ‘silver fox’ as the Olympic champion guesses LGBTQ slang terms
From twinks to size queens, the Olympic champion attempts to define queer terms.
Words: Brian Leonard
Tom Daley reveals that his idea of a ‘silver fox’ is Phillip Schofield as he takes part in Attitude’s LGBTQ slang challenge.
The Olympic gold medallist shows off his knowledge of LGBTQ terminology in the series, which is part of the Attitude Pride at Home digital festival, which runs from 9-19 June.
Getting off to a good start Tom proves he knows what a ‘read’ is. We’d be surprised if he didn’t!
Tom, who’s married to the Oscar-winning screenwriter, Dustin Lance Black with whom he has a child (Robbie) also gets ‘Rainbow Family’ (a close group of friends who are LGBTQ or a family with LGBTQ parents) right.
“Twink is basically a young slender gay person originating from a Twinkie. Do you know what a Twinkie is? They’re basically cream-filled skinny donuts,” says Tom in regard to the term ‘Twink’.
Asked if he would consider himself a twink Tom adds: “I’d like to think of myself as a muscle twink or jock rather than a twink.”
On ‘Silver Fox’ Tom goes straight to Phillip Schofield, explaining it’s “someone that’s got grey hair and is slightly older.”
When he’s told a silver fox specifically means an attractive older, man Tom reacts with some surprise.
Aside from Tom, those putting themselves in the hot seat are pop icons Steps, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie star Max Harwood, comedian Tom Allen, and model, Pablo Hernandez.
LGBTQ Slang is part of Attitude Pride at Home, which runs from 9-19 June at attitude.co.uk, youtube.com/attitudemag and on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@attitudemag).
