Is Dannii Minogue making a return to The X Factor UK?
By Will Stroude
There’s been a soft spot in all our hearts for Dannii Minogue since her four-year stint as The X Factor’s most sensible, straight-talking judge, and rumours are flying that she may well be about to make a long-awaited comeback in the upcoming twelfth series of the ITV singing competition.
Dannii served on the X Factor UK panel for four series between 2007 and 2010, before later moving over to the Aussie version, preferring to head back to her home county with her then newborn son. According to Metro, however, her former co-judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has specifically requested that the Love and Kisses singer join her at Judges’ Houses this year.
“The biggest news this year is the return of Dannii Minogue – she has been requested by Cheryl,” a source told the paper.
Rumours of a Dannii comeback have circulated frequently in the past, but with the news that she’ll be headlining Manchester Pride and performing at G-A-Y in her first UK shows in almost a decade later this summer, it seems more of a possibility than ever.
Meanwhile, new judge Nick Grimshaw is apparently lining up breakthrough British singer Jess Glynne to join him at the Judges’ Houses stage of the competition. Things apparently aren’t looking so great for X Factor stalwart Sinitta though, who recently slagged off Simon Cowell’s decision to add Grimshaw to this year’s lineup.
“Simon isn’t happy with Sinitta,” the source went on. “She looks set to be axed.”
“However, he is so pleased to get Paloma on board as he believes this will help draw her to sign up for a future series instead of The Voice.
“Him and Dannii are on good terms and he knows she is one of the best judges for spotting talent he has ever worked with.”
The X Factor is expected to return to screens on in late August, with new co-hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack taking over from Dermot O’Leary.
Whether Dannii’s returning to screens or not, the exciting prospect of her upcoming shows has lead us to reminisce about the junior Minogue’s criminally underrated back catalogue – read our revisit of all her best hits here.
