Heartstopper creator Alice Oseman teases ‘much deeper’ season 2 storylines
Fans can expect more serious storylines in the new episodes released next week.
Alice Oseman has hinted at some “deeper” stories to come in season two of Heartstopper.
The hit TV show became a huge success after being released on Netflix last year. After being teased for months, fans will finally see it hit screens next week.
And there’s plenty of action to come for Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) as they continue to navigate their romance together. Oseman has now shared how fans will see a different side to the beloved characters ahead of its imminent release.
“In season two, the characters are all maturing in their romances, their identities, and their outlooks on life and the future,” they told Radio Times.
“I hope viewers will be pleasantly surprised by some of the paths that these relationships take”
“They all feel a little older and wiser, and with that comes a whole host of new experiences and emotions.”
“I hope viewers will be pleasantly surprised by some of the paths that these relationships take as the characters get to know each other and themselves on a much deeper level,” the creator went on to add.
It comes as the trailer for the second series has just dropped, and fans are buzzing.
Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) enjoy their new status’ as boyfriends. However, Nick is visibly worried about coming out. As hinted by the cast, season two will be more mature and we see glimpses of that.
There are several other queer love stories set to blossom within the new season away from the main duo.
Fans will see more from lesbian couple Tara (Corinna Browne) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell). Another key duo will be trans student Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (William Gao) whose ‘will-they/won’t they’ romance also looks to be a central storyline in season two.
“They all feel a little older and wiser, and with that comes a whole host of new experiences and emotions”
Elsewhere, Isaac Henderson (Tobie Donovan) will come terms with his identity as he explores asexuality identities.
Season two will also see the introduction of Nick’s older brother, David (Jack Barton) as well as Sahar Zahid (Leila Khan), James McEwan (Bradley Riches), and Mr. Farouk (Nima Taleghani)
Oseman previously teased more of what we can expect in season 2. This includes the exploration of sexuality through the character of Isaac (Tobie Donovan).
In an interview with Attitude earlier this year, they said: “Netflix will hate me for spilling, but yes, asexuality will be discussed on TV in a big way. I’m excited. I hope it’ll change the world.”
They continued: “I hope when it happens in Heartstopper it doesn’t feel like a lesson. You know Isaac, you care about him, and now you’re going to learn something new about him.”
Heartstopper season two debuts on Netflix on 3 August.
