A Catholic LGBT group have been excluded from the annual World Meeting of Families (WMOF).
The annual get-together, promoted by the Catholic church, is set to take place in Dublin at the end of the month with Pope Francis attending.
However, the Global Network of Rainbow Catholics (GNRC) – which was launched in Rome in 2015 – have been formally excluded from the event despite applying to attend back in April.
Paul McCann, exhibition co-ordinator for WMOF, said the LGBT+ group hadn’t been successful with their application claiming there were “uncertainties over the amount of space we will have available for exhibitions because of other logistical considerations”.
The GNRC, which represents 32 LGBT+ Catholic groups around the world, allegedly applied for a booth but claim they have been frozen out of the meeting and only received a response today (August 13).
However, marriage equality campaigner Frank De Bernardo successfully got press credentials for the event and pro-LGBT+ priest James Martin will also be attending despite more than 10,000 people signing a petition to remove him from speaking at the event.
