– Well, that’s your lot folks. The 74th Golden Globe Awards live from Hollywood, Los Angeles, have officially come to an end.
The night’s big winner was by far and away La La Land, which dominated each and every category it was nominated in, taking home seven awards from seven nominations. The Night Manager emerged victorious in the TV categories with three awards, and while Moonlight only took home one award from six nominations – narrowly missing out in many of the acting categories – it made it count in the end with 2017’s Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture.

04.08 – Well this is it. The big one. What will be crowned Best Motion Picture (Drama) at the Golden Globes 2017?
It’s Moonlight! Barry Jenkins’ gay coming-of-age epic has done it. It might have missed out in five of six categories tonight, but it’s come roaring back when it mattered to pick up the night’s most prestigious award.
As he takes to the stage, director Barry Jenkins has one simple message for anybody who’s already seen the moving tale of growing up gay in a down-and-out part of Miami: “Tell a friend, tell a friend, tell a friend”.

– Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) goes to Isabelle Huppert for Elle, which was also named Best Foreign Film tonight. Bodes very well for her chances at next month’s Academy Awards…
03.58 – Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) goes to Casey Affleck for Manchester by the Sea.
03.51 – La La Land caps a phenomenal night as it picks up Best Motion Picture (Musicial or Comedy). That’s now seven Golden Globes, for those of you still counting. We’re in the midst of the big ones now.
03.39 – …It is. Right on cue, Emma Stone picks up Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) for La La Land. A huge win for the 28-year-old, who missed out on an Academy Award nomination for the role.
03.32 – A big one for La La Land as Damien Chazelle picks up Best Director. Another biggie to follow?
03.14 – Viola Davis could earn herself another award nomination purely for this speech alone: The actress pays tribute to a little-heralded actress known as Meryl Streep, who is the recipient of this year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifelong achievement.
An emotional Streep, who somehow delivers a riveting acceptance despite losing her voice, pays tribute to the diversity of the actresses nominated tonight, and the adversity many of them have overcome to be in the room. She also makes a impassioned plea to safeguard the freedom of the press in light of recent political developments in the United States.
Then comes the kicker. Sharing some advice given to her by recently-departed friend Carrie Fisher, Streep fights back tears as she tells the enraptured stars before her: “Take your broken heart, turn it into art.”
02.53 – Two mammoth wins for Netflix as Claire Foy is named Best Actress in a Television Series for her role as a young Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, while the show itself picks up the award for Best Television Drama. Rule Britannia, and all that jazz.
02.46 – Tom Hiddleston takes home Best Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for The Night Manager, which is all the excuse we need to whip out this picture…
02.40 – Best Foreign Film goes to French psychological thriller Elle.
02.30 – A moving video montage pays tribute to Carrie Fisher and mother Debbie Reynolds, who sadly passed away within a day of each other last month. An HBO documentary charting the pair’s relationship premiered in the US on Friday after being brought forward following their deaths.
02.25 – Best Screenplay goes to… you guessed it, La La Land. Or more specifically, screenwriter Damien Chazelle. We’ll be running out of press images soon, you know.
02.19 – The La La Land express continues to gather steam as Ryan Gosling picks up Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
02.12 – She’s only gone and done it! Olivia Colman scoops Best Supporting Actress in a Limited TV Series for her critically-acclaimed turn in The Night Manager.
02.07 – Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture goes to Viola Davis for Fences, the film adaptation of n by August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name. After five nominations, a first win for the How to Get Away with Murder star.
01.58 – So it begins. Two awards in quick succession for La La Land. The musical picks up Best Original Score (courtesy of Justin Hurwitz) and Best Song for ‘City of Stars’. We’ve got an inkling that won’t be the last we hear from the romantic musical juggernaut tonight…
01.50 First Brit win of the night! Hugh Laurie is named Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series for The Night Manager. More than a few digs at President-elect Trump in his acceptance speech too, so bonus points there.
01.40 – More awards glory for the unstoppable Sarah Paulson. The 42-year-old picks up Best Actress in a Television Movie or Miniseries for The People vs OJ Simpson following her Emmy win last autumn.
The show itself picks up Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television.
01.29 – Best TV Series (Musical or Comedy) goes to Donald Glover-starring FX comedy-drama Atlanta.
01.23 – The award for Best Actress in a TV Series (Musical or Comedy) goes to Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross.
01.15 – Best Television Series Actor (Drama) goes to Billy Bob Thornton in Amazon Prime’s Goliath. Expect the streaming services to continue to assert themselves in the TV categories tonight…
01.11 – Without further ado, the awards are underway! Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds present the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, which goes to Aaron Taylor-Johnson for his terrifying turn in Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals.
That’s a big of an upset for Moonlight’s Mahershala Ali, though…
01.03 – And we’re off! As suspected, tonight’s show opens with a huge all-singing, all-dancing La La Land-inspired number and skit, featuring cameos from Ryan Reynolds, Justin Timberlake and Tina Fey. Buckle up, folks…
00.45 – The Globes are traditionally less formal than the Academy Awards so expect the drinks to be flowing and the possibility of a faux pas or two as the night goes on. Jimmy Fallon is seen as a safer choice for host than Ricky Gervais, whose close-to-the-bone humour has divided audiences last year, but still expect some gentle roasting of celeb-land…
00.26 – Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling-starring musical La La Land is sure to make plenty of appearances tonight, and it looks like the show’s opening skit might add to the tally if this is promo clip is anything to go by…
00.15 – Less than 45 minutes to go until the main show kicks off and the stars are really starting to flood the red carpet now.

– As far as LGBT interest tonight goes, all eyes will be on Barry Jenkins’ epic drama Moonlight. Set for release in the UK next month, the gay-coming of age film documents the life of a young, black gay kid growing up in an down-and-out part of Miami and was one of the most critically-acclaimed films of 2016 in the States.
It’s up for five awards tonight, including the coveted Best Motion Picture Award. There’s a lot of hype surrounding its chances, but with tough competition from the Casey Affleck-starring Manchester by the Sea, could the panel end up opting for more traditional movie fare?

23.20 – For those in need of quick crash course, tonight’s awards are voted for by the 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Unlike the Academy Awards, the Globes honour the best of both TV and film, giving us a rare chance to see all of Tinseltown turned out in their awards finery.

23.15 – With less than two hours to hour to go until the ceremony kicks off, the red carpet has been rolled out and the stars are already giving us their best blue steel outside the The Beverly Hilton Hotel in LA, where tonight’s ceremony takes place.
After taking the reigns at the Emmys back in September, Jimmy Fallon is back in the hosting seat tonight as Hollywood celebrates the best of both the silver and small screens.
