Strictly Come Dancing star Susan Calman has hit back at a homophobe who called her a “fat rug muncher” online. Taking to Twitter on Monday (October 2), The Boss host, who is openly gay, revealed she had been attacked for her sexuality. “Noticed that someone called me a ‘fat rug muncher’ on Twitter,” Calman wrote. “That won’t stop me from dancing. It’s the reason I’m doing Strictly.” Minutes later, the 42-year-old shared a moving image of herself and dance partner Kevin Clifton on the show along with the words: “That’s the joy of being on Strictly. Don’t hide away, defeat the haters through the medium of dance.”

Calman was previously targeted with abuse earlier this year when she was slammed on social media after agreeing to dance with a male partner and it seems the trolls can’t get enough. The backlash led to renewed debate about same-sex dance couples, with Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood calling for the pairings as Judge Rinder and Will Young shot the idea down.
